CYBER LANGUAGE


Cyber language is a language in web. It is also known as Internet slang ( Internet short-hand, netspeak or chatspeak) refers to a variety of everyday languages used by different communities on the Internet. It is difficult to provide a standardized definition of Internet slang due to the constant changes made to its nature. However, it can be understood to be a type of slang that Internet users have popularized, and in many cases.

1. It lowers the task of formal speech or writing.
2. The users are familiar with such code words so that it reduces the keys strokes.
3. It replaces the conventional synonym.
4. It uses least number of characters needed to convey a message.
5. Can avoid punctuation, grammar and capitalization.

DISADVANTAGES

1. Language confusion.
2. Distractions.
3. Misunderstanding.

SITUATION:
Cyber language is  a variety of everyday languages used by different communities on the Internet. Most teenagers using cyber language to communicate with their friends. This cyber language make them easy to chat with friends by using the short word or smiley icon. However, it actually is not to be practice in their conversation because it will make some people not understand. What do you think?

Social Networking

A social network is a social structure made up of a set (such as individuals or organizations) and the dyadic ties between these actors (such as relationships, connections, or interactions). The social networking websites allow users to be part of a virtual community. The two most popular sites are currently Facebook and MySpace. These websites provide users with simple tools to create a custom profile with text and pictures. A typical profile includes basic information about the user, at least one photo, and possibly a blog or other comments published by the user. Advanced profiles may include videos, photo albums, online applications (in Facebook), or custom layouts (in MySpace). After creating a profile, users can add friends, send messages to other users, and leave comments directly on friends' profiles. These features provide the building blocks for creating online communities. 

FACEBOOK
Facebook is a social networking website that was originally designed for college students, but is now open to anyone 13 years of age or older. Facebook users can create and customize their own profiles with photos, videos, and information about themselves. Friends can browse the profiles of other friends and write messages on their pages.

Each Facebook profile has a "wall" where friends can post comments. Since the wall is viewable by all the user's friends, wall postings are basically a public conversation. Therefore, it is usually best not to write personal messages on your friends' walls. Instead, you can send a person a private message, which will show up in his or her private Inbox, similar to an e-mail message.

Advantages of Social Networking

•          Low Costs - Definitely, it's cheaper to use online social networking for both personal and business use because most of it is usually free.

•          Builds Credibility - You definitely can gain the customers' confidence if you can connect to them on both a personal and professional level. Despite having to do a bit of work, it definitely pays off as you can be tapped for an offer if someone catches wind of your products or services. As long as you don't pursue them too aggressively, you will do well here.

•          Connections - You are friends with people who have other friends, and so on. There is potential in such a common situation. By using a social networking site, you can do what you can and get connected with these people to form a web of connections that can give you leverage if you play your cards right. As long as you give as well as you receive, then they will most likely stick with you. These connections are definitely valuable in the long run.

 Disadvantages of Social Networking

•          Lack of Anonymity - You are putting out information about your name, location, age, gender, and many other types of information that you may not want to let others know. Most people would say be careful, but no one can be certain at any given time. As long as people can know who you exactly are, then some can find ways to do you in.

•          Scams and Harassment - There is a potential for failure of security in both personal and business context. While many sites apply certain measures to keep any of these cases of harassment, cyber-stalking, online scams, and identity theft to an absolute minimum, you still may never know.

•          Time Consuming - If there is nothing important, that would just be a waste of time for you. The key to social networking is that it is supposed to be fun, whether you are just doing it for kicks or clicking around for business purposes. That should be reasonable enough for anyone, but there are those people who don't see the point. For them, it can be a disadvantage.

SITUATION:

Nowadays, more people use social networking to connect with others rather than meet face to face. As we know, the most famous social networking nowadays is Facebook. Facebook is not only for elder people but also for young generations. This social networking is not suitable for young generation such as students in primary school. It will make them too addicted to Facebook and they will ignore about their study. What do you think?

 

ONLINE COMMUNICATION

Asynchronous

Use of online discussion facilities to conduct a debate on a particular topic, set by the teacher. Students can contribute whenever they happen to sign in, within a defined period of time, typically one or two weeks.

Disscusion Board, VoiceBoard, Journal,Blog, Email, SMS, narrated slideshows and so on. Synchronous

Chat room facility to take the place of a face to face meeting. Contribute is properly speaking in real time between two or more students online at the same time.

SITUATION:

Both asynchronous and synchronous communications are very useful for students, teachers and lecturers. Asynchronous is face to face learning and synchronous is more to self-study. This type of learning help them to be more efficient and understand. These type of learning give benefits to us and also have disadvantages. But, students and lecturers still using these learning style in their life even it have disadvantages. What do you think?

BROWSING STRATEGIES

WWW stands for " World Wide Web". It is important to know that is not a synonym for the internet. The World Wide Web, or just "the Web," as ordinary people call  it, is a subset of the internet. The web consists of pages that can be accessed using a Web browser. The internet is the actual network of networks where all the information resides. Things like Telnet, FTP, Internet gaming, Internet Relay Chat (IRC), and e-mail are all part of the internet, but are not part of the World Wide Web.

 What is web browser?

A web browser is a software application used to locate, retrieve and also display content on the World Wide Web, including Web page, images, video and other files. The example of web browser are Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, Arora, Lynx and so on.

Modem or NIC (network interface card)

A modem (Modulator/Demodulator) is a communications device that can be either internal or external to your computer. It allows one computer to connect another computer and transfer data over telephone lines.

ISP (internet service provider)

ISP (internet service provider) is an organization that provides access to the Internet. the examples of ISP in Malaysia such as TMnet and YES 4g (YTL).

SEARCH ENGINE

A web search engine is designed to search for in formation on the World Wide Web and FTP servers. The search results are generally presented in a list of results often referred to as search engine results.

SITUATION:

There are many ways to connect internet such as computer with a browser application installed, Modem or NIC and ISP (Internet service provider). For the Browser application installed, people more prefer using the Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome rather than Safari or Arora. What do you think?

VIRTUAL VS ELECTRONIC

A virtual learning environment (VLE) is an education systems based on the Web that models conventional real-world education by integrating a set of equivalent virtual concepts for tests, homework, classes, classrooms,and the like, and perhaps even museums and other external academic resources.

The lecturer is able to present lessons through video, PowerPoint, or chatting. The students are able to talk with other students and lecturer, as well as collaborate with each other, answer question, or pose questions.

E- learning comprises all forms of electronically supported learning and teaching. The information and communication systems, whether networked learning or not, serve as specific media to implement the learning process. The term will still most likely be utilized to reference out-of-classroom and in classroom educational experiences via technology, even as advances continue in regard to devices and curriculum. Content is delivered via the Internet, intranet, audio or tape, satellite TV, and CD-ROM.
